Adios Sangria, Eagle Rocks, and Rod Roddy and the Meters

Lots going on over the next two weeks so I'm going to keep the mindless babble to a minimum. Or at least attempt to. We've got art openings, new press, new wines, music, and a brand spankin' new dinner over at Auntie Em's to get through, so here it is...

The CoWineCo walls have changed again with photography from two rather talented individuals and customers of ours, Jesus Travino and Byron Motely. Their work will be hanging until October 23rd, but please join us this Saturday for the opening reception - details below...

Adios Sangria!

Yes, it is sad but true, this Saturday the 29th is the last day we'll be pouring Sangria for this year. But our little recipe will have a dramatic and proud return in Summer '08. Saturday bar hours: 1-11pm.

Eric Kent Syrahs

The days of coming back in over and over again to treat yourself to a bottle of Eric Kent are, sniff sniff, over. The Erick Kent selections have become so popular (deservedly so) that they had very little to go around this year. We tried the new Syrahs last Friday and they're heavenly as always. The new Pinot and Rose will be released in the Spring.

Eric Kent Dry Stack Vineyard Syrah 2005, Bennett Valley, California - $36.99/btl

(limit 3 bottles per customer)

Eric Kent Kalen's Big Boy Syrah 2005, Sonoma Coast, California - $39.99/btl

(limit - 3 bottles per customer)

Wine Tasting: Rod Roddy and the Meters

Tonight! the 28th

(wines by the glass available from 8:30 to 11pm)

$15/person

5 wines and gourmet cheeses from Auntie Em's Marketplace

Please RSVP to: info@cowineco.com or (323) 478-1985

We've patented "Rod Roddy and the Meters" in case we ever want to start a band again, so don't even try it. Anyway, the late Rod Roddy, infamous announcer for the Price is Right, would be 70 years old today if he were still on our planet ushering people down to be the next contestants on the show. Also today in 1889, at the CGPM (General Conference on Weights and Measures of course......Party!) they finally agreed on the specific length of a meter. Thank GOD, i was really getting sick of all the bickering.

wines

Ken Forrester Petit Chenin Blanc, Stellenbosch, S. Africa

Round Hill Chardonnay 2006, California

Cardwell Hill Cellars Rose of Pinot Noir 2006, Willamette Valley, Oregon

Garnacha de Fuego Old Vines 2006, Calatayud, Spain

Lazy Sunday Tasting

Sunday the 30th

1-4pm

$12/person

4 wines and gourmet cheeses from Auntie Em's Marketplace

Our Sunday tastings will now feature slightly higher-end wine selections. Our Friday tastings get a little too loud to discuss the wines in great detail (we're not complaining), so if wine knowledge is your grail, Sundays are the best tastings for you. Call or email Sunday for selections.

(323) 478-1985 or info@cowineco.com

And remember, every Wednesday from 4-9pm you can choose any wine in the store and pop it open for no corkage charge!

Oh, and also remember, we're now open until 11pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays

Fall '07 Auntie Em's Farmer's Market Dinner!

If you've never attended one of the Auntie Em's dinners, you're missing out.  Terri and her team do a dinner once a season with all fresh, farmer's market ingredients.   and we pair our wines with each dish.

CLICK HERE for the full menu and reservation information.  Our pairings are below....

Braised pork shoulder pairings:

Gomba Barolo 2003, Italy - ($30.99/btl), a little herbal and earthy, perfectly weighted for pork.

Koehler Syrah 2005, Santa Ynez, CA – ($23.99/btl) – a nice, more intense pairing for pork, offering its own meatiness and dark fruit flavors.

Shrimp and fresh corn risotto pairings:

Albert Mann Pinot Blanc 2006, Alsace, France - ($16.99/btl) Slightly fruity on the nose, but of pears and apricot, finishing dry – great with both the seafood and the risotto’s richness.

Storr's Chardonnay 2006, Santa Cruz, California – ($20.99/btl) A slightly heavier option, the creaminess complimenting the risotto and corn without covering the shrimp’s flavor.

Heirloom tomato stuffed eggplant:

Lang & Reed Cabernet Franc 2005, North Coast, California - ($20.99/btl) The velvety texture of the Cab Franc and the acidity of the tomato compliment each other if you want to stick with a red.

Marramiero Anima Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2004, Italy – ($20.99/btl) The light nuttiness of this white with the eggplant is a nice combination.

Chicken w/ Peach-Thyme Vinegar Sauce:

Rosenthal Surfrider Chardonnay 2005, Central Coast, California -($16.99/btl) The Surfrider’s stone-fruit qualities are great for the peach in this sauce, but it has enough acidity to stand up to the the vinegar.

Renato Ratti Colombe Dolcetto D'Alba 2005, Italy - ($14.99/btl) Something a little lighter and brighter with chicken prepared this way would be great, and dolcetto can be rustic yet delicate at the same time.
