Mikey Likes It

In our newsletter a couple weeks ago we published a short list of restaurants that offer discounted, low, or no-corkage for Colorado Wine Company wines. We're happy to announce that we've added a fantastic restaurant in South Pasadena to the list in the past week. Mike and Anne's will offer half-off their corkage (so $5/bottle)for Colorado Wine Company-bought wines on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Get the Dayboat Scallops appetizer! Served with Black Angel Hair, Kumquats, and Coconut Lemongrass Broth. Fantastic. Add to that a nice Austrian Gruner Veltliner pairing and you'll probably just spend the night on their patio.

(click the graphic above to go to their website)

1040 Mission Street, Suite 102

South Pasadena, CA 91030

Also, check out our official Colorado Wine Company Corkage Schmorkage interactive map!

If you have any restaurants with great corkage deals you want to add to our list,

please post it on our blog HERE.

The Almost-FreeMason

Randy Mason is known mostly for his fantastic Sauvignon Blancs, from his Napa Valley bottling, to the reserve, to the wildly popular and affordable Pomelo. But, recently our friends at Garber & Co. brought in what we're told is the last bottling of cabernet that Randy and is wife Megan are going to offer.

Well, we normally try not to carry too many wines from the same winery since there is just so much wine out there to choose from. But when we saw it was a 2001 AND Napa Valley and Rutherford fruit for under $20, we had to try it. My lord folks, this is a rare find. A sophisticated Napa Cab that is ready to drink NOW, not in 4 or 5 years, NOW, for $17.99. As we were telling a customer the other night, we sound like used car salesmen pushing this wine, but no kidding, this won't last. 0% down! Drive it right off the lot! Sorry. Seriously, this is just something we've got to get out there. Open it up, decant it or let it sit in the glass for about 15 minutes, and take a sniff every once in awhile. This one will change 5 times over in that amount of time.

Notes from the Masons:

"Made with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. This is a big and beautiful wine. The color is an elegant ruby. The nose is filled with plum, cassis and dark jammy nuances. The mouth is rich with black fruit and tary flavors. Barrel aged 22 months in 75% French and 25% American oak."

Paper or Canvas?

Though we kind of like the idea that our logo'd paper bags are used to start outdoor fireplaces all over northeast LA, it is definitely time to offer an alternative.   In honor of Earth Day, we have added a new canvas, 6-bottle shopping bag for $13.99.  The lightweight bag stays weighted nicely over the shoulder and includes a fixed 6-bottle divider inside.  When you buy the canvas shopper, you will get a one-time 10% discount on the wine bottles you purchase that day.  And for all of those customers out there that were actually returning our paper bags for re-use, we salute you.

Wine Tasting: Lick It Up, Casey Kasem

Friday the 27th

5:30-8:30pm

$15/person

5 wines and gourmet cheeses from Auntie Em's Marketplace

Please RSVP to: info@cowineco.com or (323) 478-1985

Alright, we are celebrating two birthdays today of two very like-minded individuals - Casey Kasem and Ace Frehley of Kiss.  Ace Frehley channels all his anger into his guitar leads, and Mr. Kasem channels all of his anger into his staff (if you haven't already heard the now-famous rant online, search 'Casey Kasem' on youtube.com and watch the puppet re-enactment of him flipping out).

So, tonight we have a fantastic French Chardonnay, a new citrusy Sauv Blanc from Magito, a red Tannat (yup, another grape most haven't heard of), an already popular red blend from Australia and a superb new Rhone blend from Beckmen.

wines

Preuille Le Touches Chardonnay 2004, Loire, France

Magito Sauvignon Blanc 2006, North Coast, California

La Place Madiran 2002, France

Beckmen Vineyards Cuvee La Bec Red 2005, Santa Ynez Valley, California

Pillbarbox Red 2005, Australia

Lazy Sunday Tasting

Sunday, April 29th

1-4pm

$12/person

4 wines and gourmet cheeses from Auntie Em's Marketplace

Our Sunday tastings will now feature slightly higher-end wine selections. Our Friday tastings get a little too loud to discuss the wines in great detail (we're not complaining), so if wine knowledge is your grail, Sundays are the best tastings for you. Call or email Sunday for selections.

Treat Her Like a Lady

If there's one thing we know we did right when opening Colorado Wine Company, it was choosing Eagle Rock as our location.  Sure, we still have to draw maps for our west-side friends to find us sometimes, but we like that.  It's the cul-de-sac of Los Angeles.  It's unique, it's quirky, it's a real, down-to-earth neighborhood where you still know who most of your neighbors are.  Like "Cheers" but much larger......and outside...with more wine.   And mirroring the residential community of Eagle Rock, the business community is growing and coming together more and more every month.  So, we want to offer a round of applause (or that slow-clapping thing after most over-the-top speeches in movies - here's a compilation actually) to Eagle Rock's newest retail addition, Lady.  Lady is a women's clothing, jewelry and shoe store owned by our old friend, Camille DeSoto.  While working as a jewelry buyer for Trina Turk, Camille realized it was time to act on her dream to open her own shop.  A little over two years ago, we did the same thing and the community support was invaluable.  So please support local business go check her out!  *** 4974 Eagle Rock Blvd., (323) 254-6500
