When $20 for a pinot is considered a 'value wine', you know things have gotten a little out of hand. And now with the dollar in the toilet, those semi-affordable Bourgognes are inching up in price as well. So it was nice to see Patrick Comiskey's LA Times article yesterday about $20-and-under domestic pinot noir. Two wines mentioned are on the CoWineCo shelves: A to Z Pinot Noir, Oregon - $17.99, and Stephen Ross Central Coast Pinot, California - $19.99. Click here for the full list of wines reviewed. Some other options for under $20 pinot on our shelves are: McFadden Mendocino Pinot Noir, CA - $18.99 (organic) Stangeland Pinot Noir, Oregon - $19.99 Adelaida Cellars SLO Pinot Noir, Paso Robles - $18.99 Lucas & Lewellen 'Queen of Hearts'Pinot Noir - $12.99 Poppy Pinot Noir, Monterey, CA - $12.99 Montpellier Pinot Noir, CA - $8.99 San Simeon Pinot Noir, CA - $15.99 Kahurangi Kiwi Pinot Noir, New Zealand - $14.99 Domaine Drouhin Vero Bourgogne, France - $19.99

Wine Tasting: Old Slatback Manny
Friday the 18th 5:30-8:30pm (wines by the glass available from 8:30 to 11pm) $15/person 5 wines and gourmet cheeses from Auntie Em's Marketplace Please RSVP to: info@cowineco.com or (323) 478-1985 For this Friday tasting, we have something very special to celebrate. A holiday I'm sure that is toasted in your home year in, and year out. Of course I'm speaking of Andorra's annual Slatback Celebration where they hoist slatback chairs above their heads and praise Manuel Roig who, in 1754, created this unique sitting device (or 'chair' for the boring) to make his long stays at the local bar a little more comfortable. Way to go, Manny. Way to go. wines Saint Andre de Figuiere "Cuvee Valerie" 2006, Provence, France (another great, affordable, crisp white from the South of France) Cordon Sauvignon Blanc 2005, Santa Barbara, California (another great wine from Etienne Terlinden of Summerland) Pillarbox Red, Australia Ramsay Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California (easily one of the best deals on Napa Cab we've had in a long time) Porcupine Ridge Syrah, South Africa (malbec lovers take notice...this is one smoky mo-fo)
Lazy Sunday Tasting Sunday the 20th 1-4pm $12/person 4 wines and gourmet cheeses from Auntie Em's Marketplace Our Sunday tastings will now feature slightly higher-end wine selections. Our Friday tastings get a little too loud to discuss the wines in great detail (we're not complaining), so if wine knowledge is your grail, Sundays are the best tastings for you. Call or email Sunday for selections. (323) 478-1985 or info@cowineco.com

Bogged Down Blog
Yes, some of you have pointed out that indeed we have not posted anything on our blog since October of 2007. We've been a wee bit busy and we let it get away from us a bit, but we're back and ready to serve the blogging public once again. Soon we're going to update our very popular 'corkage schmorkage' list for 2008, but until then, we want to talk about bar etiquette. Gustavo Thrace has a great new blog where he lays right out there what he hates to hear when he's pouring at wine tastings, including, "did you bring anything good?" and my favorite, "go ahead and fill up my glass so I don't have to come back." We've come up with our own list so click here to read on and add your own lines you hate to hear from bar patrons around you, or better, yet, from your bartenders!
