Jingle Bells, Batman Smells

This question always causes mini-riots during the holiday season so why not just throw that bomb out to our lovely cowineco customers.  Which is THE BEST Christmas movie ever?

SANGRIA SATURDAYS ARE BACK!

Our pseudo-famous white sangria is back and being poured every Saturday at the bar 'till the end of Summer.  The recipe is so secret that Jen knows half, and I know half and, like the Wondertwins, the magic only happens when we're together.  Form of...an ice drunk!

Saturday bar hours:  1pm - 11pm (Sangria available every Saturday while supplies last!)

GET WITH THE FLOW

It's BBQ season again and we found the grand champion of BBQ reds.  "Grand champion" is not a very exact ranking, so what we mean is if everything in the world had a competition at everything, this bottle would win.  Kelley Creek Flow Red 2005 ($16.99/btl) is a sideproject of Thumbprint Cellars winemaker, Scott Lindstrom-Dake.  Continue...

Jeanne Kelley is an Eagle Rock resident who has recently written what many critics and readers are calling a "must have" cookbook.  Jeanne attended La Varenne Ecole de Cuisine in Paris and has been afiliated with Bon Apetit Magazine for 20 years.  From sangrita tequila chasers to clams with chorizo and saffron, this isn't one of those cookbooks where you have to stock your cupboards with obscure ingredients you'll never use again.  These recipes are about simple, unique combinations that get your mouth watering on page 1.  Here's what the Washington Post had to say:

“Lovely and practical: That's the rare standard met in Jeanne Kelley's Blue Eggs and Yellow Tomatoes: Recipes From a Modern Kitchen Garden. The dishes pictured do look good enough to eat. Stare hard enough at the Fig and Blue Cheese Crostini for Two Seasons, and you appreciate the smart thinking of an appetizer that can work with whichever type of that fruit is available. A side dish of Brussels Sprouts With Marjoram and Pine Nuts, containing shallots and a little cream, shows a depth of creativity. And Blood Orange Granita With Vanilla Ice Cream — which can also be made with Valencia oranges — couldn't be simpler or more stunning.”Washington Post, February 27, 2008

Blue Eggs and Yellow Tomatoes is available at Vroman's and other major bookstores, or CLICK HERE to get it on Amazon.com

Based on what we're tasting lately, we might just open an all gruner veltliner store.  Honestly, it's hard to find a bad one.  But what's interesting is, a lot of these once newer vineyards, are now getting some age on them and consequently, the complexity of the wine is growing allowing many vineyard managers to kick up their gruners to a higher classification.  What does this mean?  It means great gruner veltliner, but at a higher price.  The new gruner we're introducing tonight, Fred Loimer "Lois", is technically still a basic gruner so for under $15, you get a another fantastic, crisp, snappy gruner for summertime.  Come try some as we introduce this wine along 4 other new arrivals tonight!

Also, if you're going to the new Indiana Jones installment this week, keep a lookout for Shortround....you know he's in the audience somewhere.
