![]() ![]() | ![]() The Great Corkage Schmorkage ListApril 11, 2007 at 12:10 am by john When restaurants offer no, low, or discounted corkage for wine you bring into their restaurants, it's a big deal. The margin on food aint pretty so alcohol usually makes up the difference for them. We thought of publishing a list of restaurants that offer some sort of corkage deal on our site but then realized, the list would be a LOT more comprehensive if we asked for your input first. So, here's our short list of restaurants to start you off, but please comment with your ownpicks!

April 12, 2007 11:47 AM Casa Bianca cheap corkage - maybe 2 maybe 5. something like that. certainly beats drinking their paint thiner laced wine (but their pizza ohhhh their pizza - cue homer simpson sound effects and subsequent drooling) April 12, 2007 1:00 PM Beckham Grill on W. Walnut in Pasadena has $2.00 corkage every day and every night. And their Prime Rib is the best! Great food! April 13, 2007 3:13 AM Corkage is $6 at Bistro Provence on Pass Ave. in Burbank. Really awesome food, nothing over $16, nightly specials, sometimes full of Toluca Lake "blue hairs", reservations are recommended. Enjoy! April 14, 2007 7:30 AM Don't forget Auntie Em's on a Marketplace Dinner night, NO CORKAGE AT ALL WOOOOOOTS!The last time we went to the Angelique Cafe in downtown LA they charged us no corkage but we had to put our wine bottle in a brown paper bag and we drank the wine out of plastic cups. Still, they have pretty good French fare and I had steak w/frites which I washed down with a St. Supery Cab... you folks may want to call them to double check their liquor license hasn't changed...! April 17, 2007 12:14 AM Bistro Verdu on Verdugo -- $5 April 28, 2007 8:15 PM I just watched your story of the Living Channel. John and Jen, you both inspired me to keep moving forward in my business despite the setbacks I am experiencing. I can't put into words how much your story has blessed me. I am not one to do the rat race for 30 years and hope to retire with a pension and healthcare. I want to enjoy life. To me enjoying life is doing what I love to do and making a living at it. Seeing your story has encouraged me to keep at it. I pray that GOD bless your business real good. May 7, 2007 10:22 PM Leela Thai on Silver Lake right by Spaceland lets you bring whatever you like in for $1 per person. May 14, 2007 7:39 PM Girasole in Larchmont is a wonderful Italian Restaurant which charges no corkage fee. It's a cozy and delightful place. Girasole 225 1/2 N Larchmont Blvd , Los Angeles, CA July 7, 2007 2:40 PM Xiomara in Pasadena (Raymond Ave.) has no corkage fee on the first two bottles and yummy food. It's billed as a cuban/asian/french fusion, but it's really cuban/central american with a california twist. And did I mention, no corkage on the first two bottles. August 7, 2007 5:17 PM you support low corkages at other places, but charge a $10 corkage in your own. if the thrust of cowineco is to highlight wines at about $20, a $10 corkage fee is a %50 mark up ... on a wine that was purchased in your store. September 14, 2007 5:23 PM The taco truck on Eagle Rock Blvd. a few blocks north of San Fernando Rd. does not charge if you polish off a bottle with your carne asada. Seriously though - this is very helpful information. Thank you all! September 14, 2007 6:50 PM HI there "would like to drink without pain". This is John the moderator and co-owner here at CoWineCo. I'm going to go into this in the next newsletter, but i'll post it for you here as well...We charge a $10 corkage on any bottles of wine not currently being poured by the glass every night we re open except for Wednesdays when we do a no corkage night. As you already know, the cost of a glass of wine in a restaurant/bar is drastically different than what it would cost you to pour that same bottle of wine at your home that you bought in a wine store. This difference in margin allows the very few places with licenses like ours to be both a bar and a store. A bottle you might buy here for $20 has 4 glasses of wine in it which would cost you $5 a glass. This same wine would more than likely be $12/glass in any restaurant or bar. Our corkage fee means you paid $7.50/glass for each glass of wine, a much, much better price than you would get at most any other place. That extra margin pays for the broken glasses, the bartender s time, and all the sundry details and costs involved with running a bar. It s what we do to stay in business. September 21, 2007 12:20 AM My new favorite place to bring a bottle of wine with NO CORCKAGE:INGREDIENTS, in northern Glendale/Montrose, just opened by the great owner/chef, Michael Ruiz, fromerly of Bistro Verdu!!!www.ingredientsshop.comEvery Friday and Saturday night they offer an amazing "small bites" menu...we're heading over there on the early side tonight since we can't go this weekend. Not only is there no corckage, the food ROCKS!!!BYOG (Glasses) if you are picky about your stemware...
