Pink, Pink, Pink, Pink

Rose continues to dominate at our store when the weather is toasty.  From the salmon pink stuff in Provence to the ruby colored, spicy roses from Santa Barbara, it's all pretty damn good.  What do you prefer?

Clic Delle Venezie Rosso 2007
Italy - $8.99/btl

October, 2009

So, a highly regarded winery in Italy is asked by a resort group to make them a killer red wine for cheap.  They make too much and with the economy being what it is, the resort doesn't take as much as they had promised.  So what happens?  The wine gets shipped to the U.S. of A and we get a fantastic, cheap wine.

Ronco dei Tassi (or "Terraces of Badgers" -- terrifying sounding, huh?) is the winery behind this little beauty, situated in the gorgeous Friuli-Venezia Giulia region near the Slovenian border.
Enrico Coser, son of Ronco Dei Tassi's owner Fabio Coser, is the brains and talent behind this bottling.  Unless you've had Merlot from Friuli, you would not in a million years guess the varietal in a blind tasting.  This is 100% Merlot in its most rustic, earthy and balanced form.

Ronco dei Tassi is located in the province of Gorizia near the Slovenian border, where the area’s soil is ideal for Coser’s careful cultivation and selection of local and international varieties. The results are modern, balanced wines, which have helped make the label a leader in the region.  And we say 'modern' we don't mean it as a synonym for 'oak', this is actually 100% stainless steel fermented Merlot.

The name of this festive red, Clic, was inspired by a Friulian term meaning "a small glass of wine shared with friends." Coser created it with that in mind: "I wanted to make a clean, fresh 100% Merlot that would appeal to all wine lovers," says Enrico.  That may be the literal translation, but our 74 years of Italian education tells us the direct translation of 'Clic" is: "a pretty cheesy label covering a gorgeous, cheap wine that is balanced in flavor and acidity and should be kept from friends and enemies alike so that I may horde this nectar all to myself".
