     The guys from Magnanimus Wine Group recently stopped by to show us their lineup of certified organic, sustainably farmed, and bio-dynamic wines. The Old River Road Cabernet represents their organic offering, sourcing all the grapes for this lush, complex cabernet from the Ponderosa Vineyard in the Sierra Foothills, CCOF-certified organic since 1993.

     Sometimes organic and biodynamic wine can be synonymous with "hmmm....not so good", but trust us, that 'aint the case with this one. This is just simply one of the best reds for the money we've tasted this year.

     The fruit for the '05 cab comes from the Ponderosa Vineyard located at a 1900 foot elevation along the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and is aged in new French oak for 8 months. The 24% cabernet franc blended in (from the same vineyard) really shows up on the nose and lightens the body just enough to make this an old and new world crowd pleaser.  Love rich, juicy, dark fruit flavors in your cab?  You're happy with this bottle.  Love a flavorful, elegant cab with hints of white pepper and lavendar that could pass for a rich Bordeaux?  You're happy with this bottle as well. 

     We've had quite a few really good value cabs in '09 and we weren't necessarily looking to add any more to the shelves when these guys came in our doors.  Try it and you may just trade down from that $25 cab you think you can't do without.
