Wine Tasting: Marquis de Monque Friday, February 27th 5:30-8:30pm (wines by the glass also available from 4:00 to 11pm) $15/person 5 wines and gourmet cheeses from Auntie Em's Marketplace Please RSVP to: info@cowineco.com or (323) 478-1985 When storytelling seemed to be a lost art in the 1940's, it was a Frenchman named The Marquis du Monque that on this day delivered his first public performance of Viennent chez moi les petits enfants et entendent un conte d'exercice et pêchent in 1951 in the Parc Montsouris in Paris. What did he do differently? He waved his arms in an inviting, menacing and dramatic arc and asked children to trust his crazy ass just for 10 minutes. Though there were many wettings, families found themselves returning again and again and again for this surreal, almost hallucinatory public display that captured the imaginations of Parisian children for decades following. Since the Marquis loved his wine (especially dry, dry Sherry), we celebrate his high wire act and service to the world of storytelling today.
