Pink, Pink, Pink, Pink

Rose continues to dominate at our store when the weather is toasty.  From the salmon pink stuff in Provence to the ruby colored, spicy roses from Santa Barbara, it's all pretty damn good.  What do you prefer?

SOLD OUT * Kelley Creek Flow Bordeaux Blend 2005
Dry Creek Valley, California (Gold Medal - Sonoma County Harvest Fair)

May, 2008

It's BBQ season again and we found the grand champion of BBQ reds.  "Grand champion" is not a very exact ranking, so what we mean is if everything in the world had a competition at everything, this bottle would win.  Try one and you'll see.

Kelley Creek is a side project of Thumbprint Cellars winemaker, Scott Lindstrom-Dake (pictured above, alarmed at having an empty glass), and is named after a small tributary that flows through the ultra-premium vineyards of Barbara and Dick Schneider.  When the Schneiders found they had an over-abundance of remarkable fruit in 2005, they contacted their friend Scott and the Kelley Creek label was born.  This Bordeaux style blend is composed of 67% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cabernet Franc.  The Cab Franc really shows through for such a small percentage, adding bright spicy notes that play off the plum and cherry cabernet flavors.   The merlot contributes a silky texture and finishes with subtle chocolate notes.  If you are planning on grilling ribs at any point in the near future.....seriously.....you have to try this pairing.

One of the strangest things about this wine is its price.  Look anywhere online and you'll see it priced between $28 and $39 a bottle.  After we tasted it and saw the price, we bought a bunch of cases and are able to offer it to you for $16.99.  It's not a ploy at all, we just can't figure out why it is so pricey elsewhere.  We're not complaining.
